The Assessor is the elected official
responsible for developing and maintaining a current list of
all taxable real and tangible personal property in Stone
County and assessing property annually. The Assessor also
performs tax mapping by maintaining and updating property
lines based upon warranty deeds received from the Stone
County Recorder of Deeds.
The Assessor closes the Assessment books typically by July
1st of each year.
The assessment roles are then turned over to the County
Clerk who then distributes the assessment information to the
various taxing districts within the county.
Property tax rates are set by taxing jurisdictions typically
by September 1st of each year. The County Assessor is not
part of the property tax rate setting process.
